...everybody's got one

Best and Worst of 2007

Love:
Epicly Later'd

thanks to Nick and Zach I became hopelessly addicted to The Vice mag online tv channel VBS.tv. The site's chock full of amazing programming but for an aging skate nerd Epicly Later'd is pure gold. Speaking of skate nerdary, the Nike and Lakai video's this year were (to quote MMXEKE) Redonkulious.

Juno
Beowulf
Grindhouse
the best movies I saw this year for very different reasons. I would also like to take this opportunity to state that I will never be going to a movie theater again. I simply can not trust the rest of the human race to not fuck up my experience. The last time I went a kid started talking on a cell phone with his outdoor voice. No joke. Hello jank as fuck home theater system.

Music
There have been way to many good records this year, and those of you who know me are aware of my tendency to ramble on at length on the subject. So in place of actual artist shout outs, I'd like to give kudos to the following musical genre's that made it big on my stereo this year.
  • Melodic Scandinavian Death Metal from the 90's
  • Crust punk and D-beat (my bullet belt's in the mail)
  • Anything fronted by an asian woman.
  • Hip Hop artists that sound like chipmunks (thanks Anticon)
  • Hip Hop artists that sound like bears (I was late to the chopped and screwed party)
  • Bears with musical instruments (also known as Vancouver stoner rock or anything on Jagjaguar)
  • European pop stars with questionable vocal abilities
  • The thirty or so amazingly heavy bands from the 60's/70's that were not Black Sabbath or Led Zepplin
  • Dubstep (for the third year running)
  • 90's rock monster revival (Dinosaur Jr., Qui)
Hate:
Comic Sans
worst font ever, those that use it should die.

Project runway
Like when you buy and apple, cause you fucking love apples. And you wait to long to eat it and it's all soft and brown. Seriously.

mDude

my dad played this song constantly when I was a growing up. The best part is the "well I'd like to spit some beech nut in that mDudes eyes"
classic.

Beowulf

The.......most......awesomely......masculine........movie......EVER

Seriously, this movie is like a two hour ode to the erection. It's what Rob Halford's dreams must be like.

List of antics (spoiler alert!)

1.) Wrestles a man-demon in the nude to make it a "fair fight"

2.) Constantly unhooking and removing clothing to reveal baby smooth chest ( all item's of clothing during this time in history apparently unhooked simply and dramatically from shoulder clasps. The perfect mechanism to go from zero to nude in seconds)

3. If you replaced demon blood with semen, this would be the godfather of gay porn.

4. self references after any accomplishment. Rip off an arm "I AM BEOWULF!!", jump through a sea creature's eye "I AM BEOWULF!!!!!" seriously, I'm going to start doing this all the time.

5. When not killing things or talking about killing things, Beowulf carries on numerous extra-marital affairs with both teenagers and demons (played by an eight-foot Angelina Jolie) I'm not sure which is more disturbing.

thanks to Zach and Chelsea for the best plan-B ever

The Blood Brothers call it quits

From Lambgoat:

Just two weeks after recasting their purported break-up as a "hiatus," The Blood Brothers have officially split. The following statement has been issued:

"After 10 years of making music as The Blood Brothers, we have made the collective decision that our time together has come to an end. We feel extremely fortunate to have spent such a deeply memorable and amazing part of our lives with each other. At this point, however, we feel it's best that our futures move forward on separate paths. We'd like to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all the bands we've played with, individuals who have helped us make our records, and fans who have come to our shows and picked up our music throughout the years. Your friendship, support and love hold such a profoundly special place in each of our hearts. We hope that the memories you attach to our music are as fond as those you have given us. Thank you and take care, we'll miss all of you."
